Hi, I've recieved a hand delivered notice from Philips stating that I owe over £1000 to "NW London" and that the debt is a fine. They said they are going to come and take away my goods to that amount. I have never recieved any information about this debt and I dont even know where this debt has come from. So I sent Philips a Prove IT letter...did I do the right thing? I find it so strange that they have sent me this, as I have no clue where it has come from. Please can I have some sort of advice on what to do. Thanks

Philips Debt Collectors or Philips Bailiffs?

If the DCA, yes you did the right thing.

        Hi Star
If this was a bailiff then this thread should be in the Bailiff Section. http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...splay.php?f=76

Have a good read of the Bailiff guide http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...ad.php?t=14113
if you have any further questions please ask.

Also have a read of this thread http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...ad.php?t=30552 it is about Phillips Bailiffs.

            Re: Philips

Unless the debt is for council tax or a magistrates court fine, the bailiffs have as much right of entry to your home as the milkman. Less, actually, as there is more chance of you opening the door to the milkman.

Do not speak to them on the phone, insist they keep everything in writing, and do not be bullied into paying them anything until you have ascertained that you do actually owe the debt, and what the correct amount is. Alsohave a look at OFT 664, guidelines for collection of debt.
