Have you any charges on credit cards?
Have you any charges on Overdrafts and are you still having money paid into a bank that is taking the charges?
Mortgage/rent, utilities and Council tax are your priority debts are you in a reears with any of these?

    Re: Rent Arrears Repayment

Enaid, I have no credit cards only one personal loan, the rest are payday loans and cataloughes and bits and pieces but all seem to add up to an extortionate amount. I am fighting about 5 others in relation to a credit agreement. I have a current account by Nat West which I do not use but every month they slap a charge for £28.00 for the charges previously, this is another fight on its own for a £6.00 DD for a nat west blue account that did not go throught charges were made on top of charges which I cleared and try to shut the account down and still today the charges are being put on.

      Nattie,

I have asked them to close the account but they said they could'nt until all charges are paid I cleared the charges that cost me £135 or so and then the following month they slapped another charge and I was told because |I paid the charges late this occured a further charge the amount now owing is £278 to date.

I really don't know what to do now.

      Thanks

You can downgrade the account to a current plus account without closing it. Just tell them you want to downgrade it as you have no need for the Blue account.

          Wendy,

Thanks for your assistance but I think I have confused everyone, it is a current account but I agreed to join up a scheme which provide car breakdown, etc. I forgot the first DD was due to come out therefore I was charged £38.00 I paid the charge and the following month the charge occured again I paid again and contacted the bank to cancel this facility which they did and told me there would be another charge due the following month because the last charge was not paid on a certain date. I ended up paying £100 + in chrges and today this saga goes on. I wrote and complained to their head office to no avail, so I just left it it now stands at £278. These people are blaintly robbing me and I really don't know how to stop this why should I have to pay charges that have been incurred by previous charges?

          Any halp would be appreciated.

            Re: Rent Arrears Repayment

Right then. Have you sent them a letter requesting repayment of your charges and putting the account into dispute? If you haven't, then do that asap. When youhave done that you can try to come to an arrangemet with tem to pay back so much per month. Do it all in writing, don't phone them If you fill in the LB I&E sheet here we could have a look at it and see if we could be of more help. You may possibly be able to claim hardship and get charges back without waiting for the test case. Don't build your hopes up though, just in case. Might be best if you started a new thread on this, to save getting it confused ith the rent arrears stuff.

              Wendy,

Thanks I will start another thread I don't know how this turned into a thread about Banks and charges. I will write to them again I just saw by the way the RBS and Nat West is reducing theirs charges from 1/10/09 from £35.00 to £5.00, so in turn I will not own them as much they will owe me.

              Thanks

              Wendy.

Still have not received anything about the rent arrears yet wrote to them again yesterday.

                Re: Marshmallow Natwest charges

                Hello,

Its me again I really dont know what to do with Nat West another charge slapped on total is now £312. I read somewhere on this site they have reduced their charges to £5.00 so in reality I can work out or backdate my charges to £5.00 and reclaim. I really dont know, they have filed my complaint. Shall I just wait until the outcome of what they can lawfully charge or do I write again?

Hop this makes sence can someone please advise.

                Regards,

                  Re: Marshmallow Natwest charges

You say they have filed your complaint ? Did you complain on grounds of hardship or just the legal issues in the test case ?

Did you write to them as per Wendys post below ( #6 )

The charges with Natwest are reduced from your October statement date - so if you usually have statements dated 22nd then thats when the charges will be reduced from. So in reality your next statement period should only incur the new charges.
