12 years ago we purchased our house which originally had workshops adjoined to it. The owner split the land into our house and the workshops. We had no idea until last year that there was a tap on the workshop land when I saw the owner using 2 jet washes to clean his vehicle. As we have had problems with the electricity splitting the bills all this time I made enquiries about getting the water checked too. The water board came out and checked the supply and confirmed the workshop tap is on our supply. For 11 years we have been paying for the workshop water!
Husband spoke with the son of the owner and the original owner is now deceased. He seemed very disinterested and said he was too busy. Its been 8 months now with still nothing changed. The water board said as its on private land they cannot do anything which I guess means we can't either. It has to be the owner to sort this. I'm at a loss how to move forward with this. The original solicitor who administered the sale does not exist anymore so we cannot go to them.
Just seems really unfair we are stuck knowing they have a tap on their land with us footing the bill. They don't use it often we think but we work full time so who knows whats happening during the day.
Also will this affect our ability to sell in the future? I'm guessing it won't be easy.
Thanks for any advice.
