  • Smart Parking- Parking Charge Notice HELP

So last week I cannot remember what day it was I received a parking charge notice from Smart Parking ltd.
The fine is for £60 but will increase to £100, I've only received the letter due to nature of where I am currently residing. I was over the 90mins by 11mins, however I didn't realise it was 90mins free, as previously I have searched the car park in question online and I it states that the car park is free for 2hrs so I've always assumed it was 2hours.

Then today I have received another Smart Parking notice for the same car park within the space of 2 days on the same week it happened the first time and this time it was 18mins over the 90mins, again I thought that the car park was free for 2hours.

I've read about on lots of different forums some say ignore some say appeal, I am really unsure and a natural worrier so don't want to ignore and see all the letters and scaremongering tactics. I'm also afraid that I'm going to receive a 3rd ticket because I genuinely believed it was free for 2hours.

Also what they are demanding I cannot pay anyway in full, Im a single mum with two kids on benefits just now and don't have £60 or now that it will £200 as ive had two letters and again haven't seen them in time for the 14days notice period.

I would really like some help to appeal this so its one less worry that I have to deal with right now.

    Thanks in Advance

      Hi & welcome to LB.

Rule #1....do not ID the driver! (Not that you have in your above post, but just in case.........)

The usual plan of attack (or defence) is
Firstly, if it's a retail/service provider (gym, shop, burger joint etc) car park, contact the manager to see if they can intervene.
Also take pictures of the site signage & post it up here, along with windscreen tickets (if issued), & Notice to Keeper (Obscure personal details, but leave dates visible).

Do not ignore, unless the letters are via a 3rd party debt collector.
