  • 2nd hand car from garage big issues

    Hi,

In January I bought a 2nd hand car from a local (ish 60 miles away) garage.

On the way home one of the suspension struts failed on the motorway, the combined force of the failure made the other front suspension strut fail at the same time.

I called the garage immediately and they denied realising it was a potential issue.

I contacted the warranty company who he had covered the car with, they said "we aren't a 1st day warranty, it was clearly a pre-existing issue, sorry". Kind of expected that, fair enough!

Garage then became uncontactable and the car was un-driveable. So I shopped around and got the cheapest quoting garage to fix it. (its a 4x4 so even cheap wasn't cheap)

£850 later it was fixed, and the garage started answering the phone again! I explained me woes with the warranty company. I was told "Ill talk to them".

Months went by with me chasing every couple of weeks. Apparently the CEO of this warranty company has been going to visit the garage about 5 times now and never showed up. (yeah right). Now I'm waiting for a mythical call from the warranty company to get it sorted. Ive called them myself again and they have no record of someone going to call me.

Where do I go from here? I've given the garage almost 6 months to sort this out, can i claim the money from them directly?

    Many thanks

    Richard

Did you ever ask for your money back?
Did you ask the trader to repair the vehicle?

If yes, what was the response?

Who is the warranty company, and do you have a copy of the warranty you could post up?

        Hi Des,

        Thanks for the reply.

Yes I asked them to pay for it, they said it should be the warranty company who pays and 'they would sort it'

No, they didn't answer the phone for over 10 days. Due to work & family life there was no way I could be without a car. However in the conversation I had with them minutes after the car failed they told me to contact the warranty company for a repair.

Sorry i'm at work now, ill find out when I get home. I did some digging on them and they definitely don't cover pre-existing issues, which this clearly was.
