Time limit for companies to claim back excess mileage charges.

We gave up our car voluntarily in December 2016 and in May 2017 received a letter telling us we owed above £800 pounds for excess mileage and damages and in the same letter telling us they would forget damages if we just paid excess mileage.

I have found the comments on the mileage interesting on your site but can you tell me if they should of claimed this in a more timely manner initially ?
