Re: Motor Cycle News 16 July Speed Cameras "illegal"

Exactly Amy, couldn't agree more. My OH got done for doing 45 in a 40. On a dual carriageway at 3am, with not another vehicle in sight. this was a week after I'd been flashed for doing 38 in a 30. At 1.00 am, driving a horsebox, on unfamilar roads, whilst well, if not exactly lost, then vaguely mislaid. So that's 120 quid, in one week. Yes I know we were both over the speed limit, but as has been mentioned, cameras have no discretion. Its all about raising money.

And no, we didn't argue. Just paid up. So now we both have 3 points, which we have just been informed stay on licence for 4 years, not 3. Haven't checked that out yet though.

The points do stay on the licence for 4 years. However, a court will no longer recognise those points after 3 years. Can't really see the point why they have to stay on the licence for 4 years if a court doesn't recognise them after 3 years has expired, but then that's the vaguaries of British Law for you

when I got flashed in the horsebox I wasn't in my area, I was somewhere in Leicestershire (I think) bringing the box home the first day I got it. But there's flashers everwhere these days lol.

Re: Motor Cycle News 16 July Speed Cameras "illegal"

I just want to say that apart from on motorways, I never speed, but even I got a speeding ticket!
I was driving at under 40 on a 40mph road and on the look out for the speed change to 30 as I knew it was somewhere along that road.
I saw the speed camera sign, checked my speed and was doing 36mph so was ok.
              Got flashed!!
              Couldn't believe it.
Went back the next day, determined to prove that the speed change sign was either not there or hidden by trees.
Much to my surprise there were two big 30 signs with no trees, houses nothing anywhere near which could've hidden them.
How I missed them I will never know.
Maybe fairies put the signs up during the night lol
I have no pity for speeding fines, don't speed you won't get fined - seems simple enough to me.

I'm curious, why is it ok to speed on a motorway?
