Am so sorry Des, but never give up hope I've seen articles about dogs being returned home after many years.

        Re: missing dog

        Further up date on this.

Over the months we have followed up various leads from all over the country and even Eire.
Lots of travelling and searching, but nothing positive.

The other day though, we received info from a "reliable?" source within the travelling community that Ashar had recently been taken to the Shrewsbury area for hare coursing.
As he did not perform very well he was apparently abandoned.

We have contacted all the wardens and rescue homes in the area, but thought as he was registered as stolen we would inform the police.
Shrewsbury police wouldn't speak to us as we have to go through our own force, Dyfed Powys.
So contacted the local named officer and were told they had closed the file as there was nothing happening on it!

I naively thought "closing a file" was old fashioned as if it is on a computer.....
And would they close a file on an outstanding theft of jewellery?
This dog cost in excess of £1000, so in money terms it was not what I would call small, to say nothing of the emotional side.

To say we are disillusioned with the police (who didn't even tell us the file was being close) is an understatement

            Re: missing dog

I am bloody fuming! Basically, they have a chance to follow a lead (no pun intended) that could uncover a string of dog thefts and they do FA. Totally ridiculous.

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

I have no idea if this will be useful in returning your darling doggy, but I am going to North Wales next week and will gladly ask the tourist info to circulate his picture, I am going to Rhos on Sea and Colwyn Bay but I know Mr C will have no issues with going in to Llandudno and passing this on too.

PM me the info and I will send it to my S-I-L who works for Katie's Cat rescue and has connections in the rescue world for the SE as well.. My brother is a Controller for London Underground and I can ask him to pass it to railway friends.. let's make Ashar too hot to handle and get him home!!!

                Re: missing dog

Off topic sorry, but as a dog lover am sick and tired of all the cruelty and greed associated now with mans best friend.
Puppy mills sicken me and should be abolished, as should back street breeders. Also the selling of crossbreeds imho mongrels for unbelievable money.
Not a day goes by without a dog being shown on FB as lost or stolen and like Des owners totally heartbroken.
Not far behind once a day is also a very young dog for sale due to the owner having no time for it, or the kids allergic to it FGS do they not know this before they get the pup.
Bottom line they buy them and then try to sell on for a profit total barstewards they are.
I really hope you get him back des, police not acting on info is a disgrace, but I think they turn a blind eye to travellers and their disgraceful antics .

One sister in law recruited (and trust me she makes the FBI look like beginners!) and a cry for help on my fb. I will PM the details to friends I have in the doggy rescue world.

                        Re: missing dog

                        Thanks for the hint.
He already has his own FB page "Help find Ashar", and that is reshared frequently by various helpers. but any further assistance is always gratefully recceived.

OH spoke to plod again today (different officer) who apologised for her colleague giving "incorrect advice" and reassuringly said that altho' the case was dormant they will act on any new info which is received. (Whether they will or not is another matter).

Thanks for the suggestion, but daughter has tried in the past to get on hare coursing sites, but without any luck.
As we don't actually course our dogs (its illegal on hares but not rabbits) it seems we are unwelcome .

                                OK Update:

I can now confirm that Ashar's profile has been shared 30 times on twitter (to my knowledge), he has been acknowledged by Lost.com, Helpfindme and Vetscan (all twitter pages to locate missing animals) and has also been shared by Dog's Trust ROI.

I have also shared him on my author page (I have 2 twitters- one for me one for my books) and my author page on FB.

My brother in the ROI has a few travellers working on his farm so he will pass the info on too, as he says if you can get in to the clique they will help you.

No promises love, but we are trying our utmost!
