  • Energy company 'Field agent' visit

    Dear Legalbeagles,

If a company (in this case E-on) send a 'field agent' to your property without making a prior appointment, am I liable for their £55 fee if I am not in? they did write explaining that an agent 'may call' but one came round today and lo and behold at 11:55 am on a Monday I was at work! Incidentally their oustanding balance was paid on or around the 9th anyway!

    Thanks in advance

    Matt

Simple answer is no, if its not arranged then they can go whistle, if you look at my blog youll see i had a few issues with British Gas and they came off second best to say the least.

If you ask them on what basis they think they can charge you this fee im pretty sure that they wont be able to give you an answer or one that holds water at least.

      Dear pt2537

Many thanks for your timely response! I called them and they agreed that the visit fee was not applicable on this occasion. The chap on the phone said it was "pot luck" as to when field agents may knock on the door. Without calling/emailing/texting/writing to arrange a suitable time/day it's an outrage that they have the nerve to even leave these letters charging £55 in the first place. (which incidentally included the threats of further visits, further fees, warrants of entry with police presence etc etc) I wonder how many people they intimidate into paying the fee!

      Thanks once again!
