  • Advice on medical issues surrounding care

Hi there. I am asking for advice on behalf of a friend whom is male, 43yrs old and paralysed from the waist down. He was discharged from hospital last night following a stay in hospital of around 3 weeks. He has been admitted and discharged alot in the last few months as he has a bed sore on his backside which has turned into a massive hole. I am going to try and attach a photo as without seeing it I am unable to impress how awful it is.

It has been infected and the infection has travelled to his bones. The reason I am asking for advice is because he keeps being discharged without any sort of care in place and no district nurses to change the dressings. Where the sore is it is right by his anus, plus they are unable to put in his catheter at the moment which means urine and other matter is going straight into his sore.

Unfortunately, he has some issues with drug abuse and it would seem that no one cares or wants to take responsibility. While he was in hospital he lost almost a third of his body weight and he is not in good shape. I am really concerned for his welfare and I am doing my best to change his dressings but I am not medically qualified and to be honest I think the district nurses should be caring for him in the community as I really can't see this sore healing without expert attention and/or people supervising him taking his proper medication.

He is depressed and using alot of non prescription drugs to cope. Please advice. Thanks.

I can't see how I can attach a photo but the hole is around 8 inches round and very very deep. It is truly shocking to see for a non medical person and I am very concerned.
