  • Car Hire Damage Charges

Hello, I am new to this site and hope someone may be able to help me. I recently hired a car at Malaga Airport in Spain from Record Go rentacar. The receptionist gave me my receipt and a check list which was not signed by either then or me and I was given the keys to go and collect the vehicle from an underground car park. There was no staff at the car park and the car was a little bit dirty as if it had just had a bucket of water thrown over it to wash off dust. . When I picked the car up from an underground Although the car wasn't very clean, I couldn't see any visible damage. I returned the car where I picked it up and in the same condition as I had received it, there was no damage to the vehicle what so ever. I handed the car back and returned to the UK. My credit card has since been charged 300 Euro's for "damage" but I haven't had any photographic evidence of the damage. I am really angry that they have charged me for something I didn't do and that the charge was taken after I returned the car. I have sent an email complaint to the company and have received a response saying they require 30 days to respond, but I am not holding out much hope.

Well I'm no legal expert but the first port of call should be directly to your credit card company to dispute the charge. They should then claw back the 300 euro's pending an investigation. That should at least prompt the car rental company into prompt action.

    Good luck.

The other aspect to take into consideration is the package you purchased.
From their website I see that under the Total Comfort option excess fees are waived, although there is arequirement to produce an accident report for which you will be charged initially euro50 (refundable if accident found to be not your fault)
