  • Spousal Maintenance ?

    Husband works, earning £70k salary.
Wife has never given up work, but has never paid anything into the house/bills as husband has a higher earning job.
Wife currently works part time 3 to 4 days per week earning £15k pro rata, has advanced to a middle management position and has good career prospects moving towards senior managment.
    3 children, aged 6, 10, and 15.
Very little equity in the house, when debts are brought into play sale of the house would probably balance out and leave a small amount of capital perhaps £10k.
Obviously husband will pay child maintenance, according to state guidelines.
What is the likely split in terms of the small amount of capital left after the sale of the house ? and more importantly is spousal maintenance likely to be awarded, if so how what is a likely figure on top of the child maintenance.

That's a "how long is a piece of string" type question.

If there are three children who are of school age there may not be a sale of the house unless that became a private/voluntary arrangement or ordered by the court who will possibly consider the children's needs too.
