  • Aicr75 - RLP

Hi everyone, I was today at primark, and shame on me I was caught shoplifting some clothes..they get me into the office and took the clothes out of my backpack. Then 2 police officers arrived. They asked for my details, they checked I didn't have criminal record or any other warnings. They told me because is the first time I will get just a warning. I am a foreign student starting the uni in september they've told me(primark) they will contact my uni is that possible ? Will that affect my student finance ? They've also gave me a RLP letter and told me I will receive a fine...for what is that fine ? I gave all the stuff back, so the only damaged is my image...because they were very brutal in front of everybody. What should I do when the letter arrive ?

Re: Hello - RLP and Primark - Threats

    Hi and welcome.

so the police are not really interested and gave you a warning.
Primark have recovered their goods and made no loss.
They should not contact your university, and I very much doubt they will.
    It is purely scare tactics.
You will get a letter from RLP demanding money.
This is not a fine (only the courts issue fines in the UK).
It is a speculative demand for money, and will be dressed upp inall sorts of legal language.
    IGNORE IT.
Over the next few months you will get a series of letters threatening all sorts of things if you don't pay.
Some will even have red ink.
    IGNORE THEM.

The only papers you never ignore are genuine court documents, and you won't get them.
Now go to Uni, study hard, enjoy yourself and good luck.
