  • Partial settlement with Lowell

    Hi All,

This is my first post and was looking for some advice regarding a debt I have which is currently with Lowells.
I took out an HP agreement back in 2008 and maintained this without any issues until I lost my job and struggled to keep up with the payments. I 2011 Blackhorse logged a default on my credit file, subsequently I was in communication with black horse who agreed to repossess the vehicle in January 2012 leaving an outstanding balance of £1532.

Fast forward to now and after admittedly ignoring the debt collectors who black horse passed this to it has now ended up with Lowells. At the start of this year I decided I would offer them £750 as full and final settlement to bring the matter to a close. However, Lowell are refusing to accept this and I have agreed to £1 a week payment plan and after informing them I will cease making any further payments once the debt becomes Statute barred. I would really like to resolve this now and don’t really want to be dragging it out for a further 18 months. Is there anything I can do or say to get them to come around from their position and accept payment of the sum I have offered as final settlement?

I would appreciate any advice on the matter that the more learned of you posters may have.

    Thank you all in advance!!

Hi usmnm & welcome to LB

The SB clock won't start until the date on which no payments or written acknowledgment of the debt is made by you.
It will then run for 6 years (5 in Scotland) until the debt becomes SB.
