    You know what gets me??

Durham County Council has approved the sale of the DLI (Durham Light Infantry) museum ... the ONE thing up here that makes you think about the loss we had ... and they still think they have a right to commemorate the war.

The DLI was used as a site for families to spread the ashes of those lost (so should be classed as a graveyard) but no-one is bothered
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

This woman was incredible. Over the last couple of years I have been researching the treatment of Polish Jews by Christian, mostly catholic Poles and can state with some conviction Jews in Poland were more likely to be denounced and less likely to be given sanctuary than those living in any other country occupied by the Nazis. Controversial and likely to upset many but there it is. As a consequence this remarkable had woman fewer options, slimmer access to escape corridors and a much smaller support network than her French, Dutch and even German contemporaries

My great grandfather was a prisoner.
I saw him only a few times when I was
5, the number on his arm is in my memory 65 years on.
I cannot bear to watch too long!
        I am named for him.

          Nem,
I did not think it was possible to admire you any more than I already did but you just blew me away. Bless you and your family.

Religion is not the problem it's the people who embrace it even where it's toxic. The British could have given the Jews sanctuary as could many other countries but didn't, instead tremendously brave others helped them even where their own lives and families' lives were at stake.

The irony is that the Polish Jews were invited there

The Poles are very quick to condemn the allies during the Warsaw uprising while not acknowledging their culpability

However we must not condemn the present population of any country but at the same time we must never forget

The world is in danger of forgetting

Hannah Arendt has wriotten some excellent books on the Holocaust as well as totalitaianism . The account of Eichmann is particularly telling
