    ok where do i start?

me and my partner have been looking for a house for quite a while and found one close to where we are currently renting, booked to view and it was just what we have been searching for, made an offer which was accepted the same day, got a morgage sorted out and a solicitor etc and everything has been progressing perfectly, we were due to exchange the contracts in a dew days time then i get this dreaded phone call from the estate agent "theres a problem with the property" what seems to have happened is that the property belonged to an elderly lady who had passed away and was left to her 3 children and it seems that 2 of them have sold the property without notifying their brother who they have not spoken to for years and doesnt live in the country any more, from what i understand is that there has been an argument and the brother has got his solicitor involved and i am told that he intends to purchase the property, the estate agent has told me that he has 2 weeks to buy the house and if he doesnt after that time the sale will automatically come back to me. i just want to know where i stand in all this mess as we stand to lose out around £1500 if the brother decides to buy and worst of all we wont have a chance at the home we have been itching to move into for months!

any help would be greatly appreciated, i have contacted my solicitor about the situation and im awaiting a call back from them.
