Last week was my birthday. I didn't feel too well that morning. I went downstairs for breakfast hoping my wife would say 'Happy Birthday' and possibly have a present for me.
As it turned out, she barely said good morning let alone Happy Birthday. I thought, oh well thats marriage for you, but at least the 4 kids will remember.
My kids came into the kitchen for breakfast and didn't say a word. So when i left for the office i was pretty low.
As i walked in my secretary Jane said ' good morning boss, Happy Birthday'. I felt a little better as at least someone had remembered.
I worked until lunchtime and then Jane knocked on the door and said, " fancy lunch as its your birthday, and such a beautiful day".
I said " thanks Jane that sounds like a great idea".
We went to lunch, not to the normal place, but to a quiet restaurant with a private table. We had a couple of beers each and had a great time.
On the way back to the office Jane said " Do we reqally need to go back to the office?". " I suppose not said me, what did you have in mind?"
She said " lets go back to my place". After arriving Jane turned to me and said " Boss, i'm gonna go into the bedroom for a moment, i'll be right back". "Ok" i said nervously..
A couple of minutes later she came out carrying a huge cake followed by my wife, the kids and all of my colleagues all singing happy birthday.
And i just sat there....
On the couch....
