  • Whistleblowing

    Hi all,

I have found out today in a formal meeting with HR that a email has been sent to HR saying I was drunk at work on the weekend overtime. Now to explain l had been drinking friday but was certainly not drunk at work. They said l smelt of drink, had red eye and was using forklift under the influence. Now l believe l know the person as she has made it clear she has a personal hate for me and any opportunity she gets she would get me fired. Is there anyway l can request to know who sent the email to then stop the investigation due to it being a personal attack ??
They have a list of people I worked with and have said all will be interviewed and asked

    Thanks in advance
    Mike

    Re: Whistleblowing

Nope, not to stop a grievance procedure just because you believe they have a personal hate of you.

The person that made the allegation has a right to a full grievance procedure being carried out. Whether that results in you facing a disciplinary procedure or not remains to be seen. But i suspect for the reasons below that you will.

They basically complained (made a grievance) about you possibly being under the influence. And too be honest with you, it sounds like you had a lot to drink the previous night (based on the accusation made against you), so, if true, you probably where still over the drink drive limit, especially if alcohol was still on your breath and you were clearly still somewhat hung over (red eyes, smell of alcohol on your breath).

Its takes the body 2 hours to break down a pint of beer (3hrs for strong lager or 250ml glass of wine) to break down in your system. So the general consensus is if you have 3 pints of beer, it can take 11hrs to leave your system (maybe less, as everyone body breaks down alcohol at different rates), if you had 3 pints after leaving work and were in the pub for an hour, and were back at work to start your shift 11hrs after leaving work. You could still be over the limit.

So if you had 6 pints or more and left the pub at 1am and were back at work at 6am or 9am, you'd still be over the limit.
