No such things as Sanctions - If you mean general misconduct as in a minor breach of company policy or a minor misdemeanor, which will result in either a Verbal Warning (confirmed as such in writing), a written warning, or a final written warning. If you were already on a verbal warning you will likely get a written warning or a final written warning. If you were on a written warning you will get a final written warning (or be dismissed depending on the seriousness). And if you were on a final written warning it will be dismissal.

There's also the prospect that you may loose out on bonuses that are tied (contractually or discretionary) with good conduct etc. Plus the outcome can be more serious if your working in an industry such as finance, depending on what it is your alleged to have done.

Can you give us a bit more details as to what you been accused of and whether you did what they accused you off?

I agree with teaboy2 that it is normal procedure that a written warning to be given at first, then a final written warning, and then dismissal.
(See paras 18-23 of the ACAS Code on disciplinary procedures: www.acas.org.uk/media/pdf/k/b/Acas_Code_of_Practice_1_on_disciplinary_and_grieva nce_procedures-accessible-version-Jul-2012.pdf)

Also the employer may have a disciplinary policy which should gives more information.

The employer will also have in either your contract or company handbook a section about gross misconduct listing what would be deemed as gross misconduct by the employer. If an employee commits an act of gross misconduct then it can result in dismissal without any prior warnings.
