  • HELP.... going through restructure... flexible working.. redundancy

    Hi,

I have been with the firm full time for over 10years now (local gov).... I applied for flexible working in 2010 and have been working 3 days a week from home...

I've recently been told that my department are being restructured and that I will need to apply for one of the jobs in it or face redundancy !!!

The new structure has a role that is similar to what I am doing now, but they have changed the job title...

I've yet to see the job descriptions but its likely it will be similar to what I am already doing.... but so that we are not automatically assimilated into the roles I suspect they will be made to be different....

As I've got a flexbile working agreement its a change to my contract....

If I apply for one of the new jobs and get it, will I need to reapply for flexible working? If so, will the fact ive already got one in place strengthen my case?

I am a permanent member of staff, but all of the jobs in the restructure are 2 year fixed term...

    This worries me....

Any advice would be really appreciated...

    Hi webster10.

Redundancy means that your current job ceases to exist, along with all current terms and conditions, such as flexible working.
Your way forward is to ask exactly what the terms and conditions will be in the new job you'd apply for.
You also want to know what "sweeteners" would be available to help you choose the best option.
What redundancy payments are they offering?
What advantage is there to you in choosing one of the new jobs?
Is flexible working available in your new job?
You need to establish exactly what is on offer. They are making your job redundant, however they dress it up. You might choose to work with them in a new job or you might not. Detailed info from them is your way forward.
