  • Bicycle crash abroad.

I am an employee with an airline and have recently come back from LA.
While there on days off I rented a bicycle. Unfortunately I had an altercation with a vehicle and caused a lot of damage to the bonnet. This needs replacing. the incident was entirely my fault and so I am of course expecting to foot the bill for the damages.

I have a platinum account with Lloyds bank and this includes travel insurance but am not sure if this applies as I was in the USA on company business, albeit I was on my own time when I had the accident.

I also have household insurance with Lloyds which of course has public liability included. Not sure if this applicable for incidents abroad.

All offices are shut over the weekend and I would be grateful for any advice or pointers to try to keep the cost of the incident down.

    Many thanks

Your Platinum Card Policy should cover you: http://www.lloydsbank.com/assets/med...nce_policy.pdf
It covers business & personal trips.
Personal liability: section G (cycling is a permitted activity-page 11)

The only problem may be that you have possibly admitted liability and agreed to pay.(see special conditions-page 27)

Sadly, it turns out that even though I am covered by Lloyds, the cover does not extend to damage to vehicles
      Home contents insurance next stop.

        Try again.
What they cover is your personal liability for damage to property. I cannot see anywhere it excludes damage to vehicles in this section.(page 27 Section G of the booklet)
The vehicle exclusion relates to damage caused when you are driving a vehicle.
You did keep a note of whom you spoke to? Go back to them and ask exactly where this is excluded from the policy. Again keep notes.

Thank you Des8. I am in your debt. I did try them again and it turns out that I had been fobbed off the first time. Spoke directly to the Personal Liability team at they agree that I am covered. Phew!!!!!
