  • Site down and temporary amendments

We've been struggling to handle an increased load on the server from basically a surge in visitors to the forum and website. We've gone down four times in the last three days, only for 10 - 20 mins each time but I understand that can be really frustrating when you're working on posts/threads.

This appears to be temporary and is a natural surge not any kind of DDOS attack.

Therefore to try and save our server keep blowing up I've switched off a couple of 'comfort' items - like showing who is online, the What's happening box and some of the statistics at the bottom of the forum. (birthdays, calendar, who's online, active users etc)

These all add extra database queries to the server and cause issues when we're really busy ( right now we're rolling about 200-280 visitors - normally it'd be about 50-80 )

So it's ONLY TEMPORARY - possibly until Monday night

Our server peeps have been great and kicked the server a few times now when it's fallen over. THANK YOU xx

My apologies for any inconvenience, we are working hard on things in the background to keep LB up, so thank you for your patience.

Maybe but it's usually quiet on Saturdays anyway.

          It is

Usually we have under 5k visitors on Saturday and Sunday, then around 8.5k Mon, 8k tues, 9k weds, 7.5k thu, 6.5k fri.... so guess most DCA post gets sent Monday and arrives Wednesday.

this week Weds we had 14k, Thurs 19.5k and today so far 8.5k already (11.10am) ... so you can see why the server is struggling to cope...
