  • Stuck on same wages for 8 years!!

My husband, who is a skilled worker, has been stuck on the same wages for 8 years.

Every year he and other members of staff approach their boss to ask him for a payrise due to the costs of living, etc etc.

His boss has repeatedly refuse to increase wages.

My husband gets nothing for christmas either i.e no bonus, and the employer doesn't supply him with clothing.

It also states in his contract "overtime as and when required".

Is this legal for him to repetedly to refuse his staff payrises bearing in mind the costs of living going up!?

I know they are a small firm, but it brings in quite a lot of money and the boss sits in a house worth well over £1million!!

Hi.... Unless there is a clause in his contract of employment guaranteeing some right to pay increase and he is (I assume) above the minimum wage then the short answer is no. The only way to deal with bosses like that is find a better job, if he loses his workers then he will realise the old adage.. Pay peanuts get monkeys has meaning...

However, I take it his boss gives out only basic holiday pay??? No overtime in there??
Your other half and the rest of the workforce could go and point out to the boss that when (and its almost certain to occur) businesses such as his are forced to pay holiday pay for overtime retroactively if he has a happy and better paid workforce he will be more able to discuss those inevitable payments of compensation for overtime with his happy workforce... Just a thought :tongue2:
