  • Jacobs Bailiffs, a thank you

Yesterday a Jacobs bailiff put a letter through my door, relating to unpaid council tax. It said I had 24 hours to pay in full, or he would take possessions. It also said I didn't need to be present for him to take stuff. I duly panicked and was about to ring and offer the last of my wages to set up a payment plan, when I decided to check online. That's when I discovered this site and found out that he has no legal right to do this. At half 7 this morning another letter was shoved through my door saying removal would take place at 5pm. Nothing has happened since. And thanks to this site, I'm not making myself sick with worry. What awful people they must be, causing people so much worry and stress.

NB I am in discussion with the council/Jacobs regarding a payment plan. I had a bereavement recently, my grandma, who I cared for in her last few months, and stuff kinda goes out of the window, you know?

Well done for dealing with it, and good to hear that reading the info provided by the kind people on the bailiffs forum here helped relieve the stress a little. Thank you for posting.

I'm sure many of the Beagles would agree with you - a bereavement can mean you forget about things

The Bailiff may well have some legitimate fees that need paying under the new regulations . Do not let them in to your home. ever . Pay the council online . preferably weekly and dont miss the payment. Ensure that you print out the receipt . If you can mange it the council will be much more amenable to your suggestions if you can get the debt cleared by the fifth of april.
