  • ATM Skimming - NEW THREAT

There is a new process around called ATM skimming whereby people retrofit ATM machines with their own hardware that is actually able to capture card swipes and pin entries, while still maintaining the functionality of the original ATM device.

Unlike the current ways where they fit a device to actually catch your card and a hidden cam to record your pin, this will enable the criminals to get all your card details and pin without you be any the wiser because the ATM will have worked fine for you.

This was unbelievable to see, and I honestly believe I’ll never use an exposed ATM machine again.

Also of note, it's clear that phishing is not really the major concern; identity theft is the concern, and the people exploiting this are using any means possible.

This isn't new - this has been around for a good few years and the devices have been shown on TV quite a few times.

The "dongles" involved aren't very obvious at all, and it's a risk from using any ATM apart from (maybe) ones inside bank branches which must be less prone to fiddling by fraudsters.

I'm not sure why you believe that phishing is not a major concern - it affects very many bank customers and there are continual attacks on all the major banks.
