  • How do I know if debt is definitely statue barred?

Is it safe to assume if a debt isn't on your credit file it must be statute barred?

My thinking is things are on credit file for 6 years, so if nothing done during that time, it must be statute barred. Am I right?

I wouldn't rely on that because not every CRA reports on every account.

You need to know exactly when the last time was that there was any payment made or any formal acknowledgement by you that the debt is yours. If you send a Subject Access Request to the original creditor that should help, but it all depends what the history of the account is and who owns it now. Without all the details this isn't clear.
