  • BBC News – Standard of care in England’s homes ‘not good enough’

Too much “awful care” is happening in care homes in England, the chief inspector of adult social care at the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has told the BBC. The standard of care in homes in England is “not good enough at the moment”, Andrea Sutcliffe admitted. CQC publishes new plans for how it will regulate, […]

Not only in care homes, but also in the patients own homes and hospitals.
Fact is you pay crap and that's exactly what you get crap workers.
In the banking and other financial institutions they justify their massive (and often not earned) salaries by stating they have to pay high to get high quality. Pity it doesn't apply the same rules for the sick, vulnerable and elderly of our society.

      Hear, hear!

One of the problems is that the care providers are run as businesses, the effect of which is that however much funding is put in by government to improve care it doesn't filter down to the people who actually look after the people who need it. The money seems to be creamed off, either for greater profit for the business owners or for future "investment" in buildings etc., none of which helps people in the system, who's greatest needs are kindness, respect and day to day quality compassionate care.

        Exactly.
I am not saying that all the people working in care are not caring I would imagine some of them are and very much so.
Jobs in caring are often the only ones with enough flexibility for many to be able to work at all and this being the case then the minimum wage is accepted.
Many just go to work do what they have to do just to keep the wolves from their front door, compassion will not come easily to someone struggling themselves imo
