  • Hi - Ebay scam, help needed

Hi, im brand new to this site, was recommended to it by buster jack....here is our story...
myself and husband have been victims of a scam on ebay.... we are now alot of monies out of pocket....we saw original ad on gumtree, emailed the seller who wanted to go threw ebay....being both completly new to ebay we agreed, set up account and gave details that the seller wanted....we was advised it was a secure 14 day money back guarentee site....sounded secure... there was nothing that made us think or gave us any reason to doubt it would turn out to be a scam....every single page, heading was exactly same as ebay... after few days of emails between the seller and ourselves we recived ebay details and the seller arranged private auction...again we still had no reason to daoubt....there was even a live chat involved...they gave us all there details, address, names, bank details for us to do transfer...all bank details they gave us lead us to believe it was a secure ebay holding account....clearly it wasnt....after transfer it all went quiet, i contacted ebay to be told no record of purchase and wed been scammed, they advised us to contact our bank n police, police helpful....llyods bank useless....took bank almost 3 days to admit they could of stopped transfer going ahead....tsb were monies went advised that if our bank contacted them asap they coukd also of helped but as i said our bank acted to late.....given gumtree n ebay have confirmed to tracing original ads, neither company will help....advice please..... thankyou

              Hi Tiny T

Firstly I need to know the following,

Sort Code & Account number given to you by the scammer
Details of the item sold (car/caravan etc)
Time/day you made the payment and Time/day you reported it to the bank
Who you have reported it to and when
              How much was paid
Any opinions I give are my own. Any advice I give is without liability. If you are unsure, please seek qualified legal advice.

Thanks TinyT, I have now forwarded on that information and it will be on Lloyds Fraud Office desk 1st thing in the morning.

How long after sending the money did you report it to Lloyds? Usually the funds are withdrawn in a matter of hours so unless you reported it almost straight away sadly there will have been very much chance of stopping the payment.

Tools The OP has already stated (in response to my same question) that they spoke to the bank within an hour of sending the funds ALSO it would appear that the OP has evidence that the bank stated they COULD have stopped the transfer. If the bank don't refund them they should be reported AND/OR sued
