  • Barclaycard/ Egg Puzzle

    Hi

I recently asked for an SAR from Barclaycard for two cards which I held with Egg and transferred over to Barclaycard . One card was opened in 2002 and the other in 2004 . Both are now closed . When I recieved the SAR back I saw ( as suspected) I had PPI on both . I then sent in letters to Barclaycard requested the PPI to be refunded . Although Barclaycard had provided statements showing I had PPI they could not locate the applications as these were done online . My reason for claiming the PPI was that it was not made clear to me that the PPI was optional and that the boxes were preticked . Barclaycard duly upheld my claim on the card opened in 2004 but took ages with the card opened in 2002 and then wrote back saying that as I had done the application online I would have known it was optional and refused my claim .

This confused me as both cards were opened in the same way so how can one be upheld and the other not ? my cycnical side suggests that the card opened in 2002 would have a larger PPI refund and so it is in Barclaycards interest to delay as long as possible and force me to go to the FCA ( Of course I may be totally wrong) .

Anyway I will write back pointing out this 'anomaly' and see what they say but I was wondering if there is anything else I can do ( barring of course going to the FCA and waiting )

    Many thanks

    Hi and welcome

I would ask them to provide you with the evidence they have in order to reject this, and question them on it too.
Maybe an email to the Manager/Chief Executive officer (CEO) will push it for you, I would do this by giving them say 7 days before going to the FOS.

Please let us know how you get on, good luck. :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Hi. Just thought I would provide you with my case scenario. Similar to yours but my both accounts remained with Egg and were administerd to closure by Canada Square. Like you, they upheld one claim(the smaller amount) and repeatedly refused the other. Four separate letters of objection sent but still NO! Case the taken to Financial Ombudsman who have been extremely efficient and professional at all times. They phoned me 6 weeks ago to say they were ruling in my favour. Canada Square made no objection and my cheque for almost £3000 arrived last week.

Thanks All . I did find it strange but after years of dealing with Barclays and Barclaycard I should know better . I will write back and query but suspect they will stonewall me . So will prepare my docs for the ombudsman as well .

Hi, I am keen to know how you replied to your online application problem as I am in the same boat. Just had my first rejection from Canada Square saying because my application was online, it was my choice to decline it, and I could have also cancelled at any time after it was taken out. I did tell them I spoke to an advisor on the phone who recommended taking it to improve my chance of acceptance but it fell on deaf ears....

          Thanks in advance

          Matt
