  • Advice on old policy

    Hi
I am looking for a bit of advice.
We have found an old life assurance policy relating to my grandfather. I have contacted the company involved and they have told me they need to find out who is the owner is before they can talk to me.
so I am trying to find this out.
my grandfather married and had one child( my mother), then he got divorced and spent most of his life single. However he did marry again when he was in his seventies and after about 3 years of marriage he died, don't know if he left a will or not.

Since then the lady he married has died and has no children of her own, but do not know if she married again between my grand father passing away and her passing away.
my Question is does this then go back to my mother as the owner or do they look at if the lady he was married to when he died, left a will and it then becomes that they would be the new owner whoever she left her estate to.

    Thanks

You need to consult a solicitor who specialises in probate.
To give you some idea of intestacy rules, try this Government web site https://www.gov.uk/inherits-someone-dies-without-will
    Hope this helps.
