There are regulatory bodies to whom you can complain about the behaviour of legal professionals. Who you complain to will be determined by what the firm of solicitors in your case did.

Checking their website shows them to be involved in 'credit management', so this would certainly explain their tactics.

The SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) website shows no record for the firm, and the Law Society search facility doesn't list the firm at all.

Have you anything to show that they or their court 'representative' actually claimed to be a solicitor? Falsely claiming to be a solicitor is a criminal offence. Does any of their correspondence appear calculated give the impression that they are, without actually saying so?

This firm will merit monitoring and further investigation.

Check with the Solicitors Regulation Authority to see if they are authorised under the Legal Services Act 2007.

An elderly couple I know had problems with Intrum Justitia a few years ago. A dodgy collector working for Intrum Justitia had it legged with around £6,000 in collections from people paying off small debts. Gothia got involved and started threatening the couple with legal action. One phone call to Intrum Justitia confirmed what had happened and a phone call to Gothia had someone from their head office on the elderly couple's doorstep the next morning engaged in what the elderly gentleman described as "serious grovelling".

I take your point, but would stress that talking to them is dangerous - you have no idea what their version of your conversation might then be in court. It's far safer to simply stonewall them.

Interesting about TVL playing this game. I ignore them completely since I have never had a TV or any other, similar equipment and got tired of telling them this. Maybe I should start telling them again.

It would appear from your comments that this thread may get a little busy in the near future. It would be interesting, I am sure, to see if it is just one firm trying this tactic, or if they are all 'at it'

Several of the other energy companies are developing a taste for warrants, although British Gas is still very much at the top of the league. It will be interesting to see if they are all using Face2Face Contact Ltd, or if others spring up in order to cash in on this trend.
