  • legal aid

a friend whose husband seems to be wanting a divorce (actions not words) has asked me to post this:
the woman had a property and a steady job
married a man who had no property no savings and a large debt
    woman sold her property
together with husband emigrated to his country of birth (same as UK law)
she put down a deposit for house. husband had a huge debt.
slowly and surely after marrying and in a new country her job prospects dwindled.
it appears that husband/in laws were behind this (see other post about employment).
after a few years she was then unable to contribute towards mortgage.
husband began to contribute to mortgage.
she was isolated, without a job and without family nearby, rejected by in laws.
    suffered emotional breakdown.
in laws then inferred that she was unable to take care of herself.

if divorce proceeds how is the property divided?
law in country is same as UK.
would the woman be entitled to legal aid? is now dependent on husband.

You can't really say the law is the same "as in UK" when even the UK itself has different laws, for example, the law in Scotland can be quite different from England and Wales. :noidea:
