  • Halifax (bank of scotland ?)

    Hi folks,

I have just instigated a claim for PPI that I had with Halifax (and also one for Bank of Scotland). However, when I received the form this morning, I note it is one letter and one form containing both card numbers. I am assuming Halifax has been taken over by Bank of Scotland. ?

If this is the case, in the event I was successful with the Halifax PPI claim, could then then offset any amount due to me to a Bank of Scotland debt that is on my Debt Management Programme? I fear your answer would be yes?

They are part of the Lloyds Bank Group!

In answer to your question: quite likely.

Hi again folks, well unbelievably I heard last week that both claims have been upheld.

As said above when I started both these claims, I was only sent one form whereas I expected two i.e., one for Halifax and one from Bank of Scotland. However, only one arrived so I completed this as apart from dates, the same applied. A few weeks went by and I received the acknowledgement letter.

Then another few weeks went by and I received a telephone call from them. They wanted to know about savings I had at the time, as I had put on the form that my family had savings and would have helped me. He therefore wanted me to elaborate on this. I told him that at the time I took out the card(s) approx 1998 my parents had savings but as they were no longer here and all their financial records destroyed, obviously I could not prove this. He also asked me whether I was working more than 16 hours per week at the time. I said I honestly could not remember.

A week or so passed and lo and behold I received a letter stating that both claims had been upheld and I would be receiving two cheques within 28 days. I naturally was quite over the moon, especially as I have another debt with BOS on a debt management programme and thought that at least the BOS amount would be offset against this, so I did try not to get too excited!

However, am pleased to report that both cheques turned up this morning, I couldn't get to the bank quick enough I can tell you!

Again my sincere thanks to all on this forum for all the help and advice.

However, I do have one BOS card on which I'm sure I had PPI but have no statements proving this. Am wondering if a SAR would clarify this? This is the one on the debt management programme but I feel if I could get clarification and were successful at least it would reduce my debt.

Nationwide - separate thread - this is now with the Adjudicator at the Ombudsman. Interestingly I received a letter from him the other week, also asking me to clarify the bit about savings and also how much sick pay I would have been paid at the time and for how long. I await hearing the outcome.

Hi again, yes in time for Christmas I really sincerely hope that other people do not give up on their PPI claims, the banks must still be holding millions of people's money!

Re: the SAR letter for a credit card - would you please be kind enough to point me in the direction of the template please?

          My thanks again

Re: Halifax (bank of scotland ?)

                Good morning all,

My own experience with the Bank of Scotland has been incredible....

I wrote to them, (as a fishing exercise, because I could not remember if I had had a Card from them or not!), at the beginning of November 2013 (this year), and simply submitted the standard FOS form with my details (such as I could remember!)

On the form I had stated that I felt that I was 'pushed' into taking out the PPI.

The acknowledgement letter from BOS arrived in 3 days, then 14 days later, a further letter from BOS arrived. This was the surprise; they stated they had records of a second Credit Card on a different number in my name, (this dated back to 1998/1999), and they said that they had amalgamated both card accounts, and would be in touch.

On the 18th December they wrote to me with their offer letter (having upheld my complaint), and offered just over £12K !

Needless to say I accepted, and have been paid!

Basically I am amazed that they were so efficient, and it puts other Finance claims, (and possibly some claims companies), to shame.

To everyone a very happy New Year, and remember the saying 'If you don't try you will never find out'.

                Best wishes for 2014
                Dougal

                  Hi Dougal

That's great, well done. I can just imagine the look on your face when you opened the letter! Pretty much the same as mine, my payment was slightly under yours with the two cards but again very welcome to say the least! When I put the cheques in the bank, it's amazing how the bank suddenly starts to fall all over you i.e., oh let's just check you are on the best interest rate etc., even followed by a call from the local branch manager checking again and asking if there was anything more he could do for me! (Lloyds). This really made me laugh. I have made a note of the managers name and when it comes to renewing my overdraft in March will contact him personally ha ha and tell him yes please I would like it renewed again, without the hassle I've had previously! We shall see!

I've just won the battle with Barclaycard who were a real pain! (see separate thread) My case with Nationwide is with the Adjudicator at the FOS so keeping fingers crossed.

Again my thanks to all on this forum for all their help and again please everyone who is having hassle with claiming PPI DO NOT GIVE UP.

All the best for 2014 and Dougal enjoy your windfall !

                  Daisy
