  • Ex Employers fiddled me out of what I was entitled to... Help please

    Hi,

Hope I am posting in the correct section here, and with the hope that someone can please advise me on what I should do?

Basically, I was employed by a company for about a year and a half full time as a credit controller. I had been working a few mile from home before a takeover, re locating all employees, or those who went to the office about 50 mile away. During a debt meeting, it was suggested and agreed that for every customer the credit conteroller (4 in total) moved over to Direct Debit, both the customer and the credit controller received a £50 in there pay packet or a £50 Gift Card (Payment in wages were taxed) after a 6 month period of succesful transactions. This incentive began August of last year, with the first payout being end of February. I left the company in February as I got a job close to home and had asked the Financial Director if I am still entitled to this payout, and was advised that I was. when the next payout was due end of March, phone, e mailed etc, and was advised they would be sent. I received the £200 due to me and after waiting again and again nothing else was reciveved. I was then told that because I was no longer an employee of the company I was not entitled to them. Surely, If I was told I would still get the payout, although it wasnt written and the fact they sent the next lot of vouchers after my employment was terminated, would this not show I was entitled? From memory I had about 30 customers moved over so I have been done for about £1000 in Argos Vouchers. Any advice on what I can do? Thanks

Hi murphyb007, & welcome to Legal Beagles.

My first thought on this is that a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on!

The incentive scheme was probably in part to reward employee loyalty (my assumption - could be mistaken), as well as with a view to increased efficiency/better profits for the company.
Unfortunately you no longer participate in either of these.
Without firm proof that you are entitled to the payments, you have a mountain to climb.
