  • Letter From Mackenzie Hall

    Hi

This is the first time I have made a post but I need some advice as I don't know what to do.

Today out of the blue I received a letter from Mackenzie Hall stating that they are attempting to contact the above named person regarding a personal matter and this adress has been provided as being the possible residential details of their subject.

They also state that if I am not the above named person to contact their investigation team.

The letter was addressed to me in a previous married name that I have not used for 12 years and I have never used it at this address whichj I have also lived at for 12 years.

Can anyone please give some advice as I am really worried about it.

    Thanks

I rather doubt they are trying to contact you over an unclaimed lottery win.

They also state that if I am not the above named person to contact their investigation team.
On the other hand, you are not legally obliged to do anything.

The letter was addressed to me in a previous married name that I have not used for 12 years and I have never used it at this address which I have also lived at for 12 years.
That makes sense, as Mucky Hall seems almost to specialise in chasing Statute Barred debts although, in this case, it could be an instance of identity theft.

Can anyone please give some advice as I am really worried about it.
    1. Do try not to worry
    2. If it was your debt, then it is probably SB
    3. If it is not your debt, you are not obliged to pay it
    4. Get a folder and a stapler. When each letter arrives, write the date of receipt on the envelope, staple the letter to the envelope and file it in the folder.

      Thanks for your reply.

Would it be worth me sending a statute barred letter anyway?

        No, just ignore it.

If you are in the mood for a bit of sport you could write and ask them how much they are prepared to pay for the information.

In all probability they have posted the same letter out to dozens of people with the same surname.

How can you tell them that an alleged debt is statute barred when you do not know what the alleged debt might be or when the last payment was made?

If the last payment of several was made in your name some two or three years ago, it would not be statute barred but neither would it be your debt.

I have also received a similar letter, I replied via email and asked them what they wanted and they have asked for confirmation of name, address and dob which I have refused to confirm. They have since sent a reply below.
              Dear . . .
Although I can appreciate your hesitation in providing the required information, I find it prudent to inform that I am only asking that you confirm information already held. Furthermore, I am unable to correspond with you further until I have received the required information.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to respond by email. Alternatively please telephone our offices on 01563 554540 where an advisor will be able to assist you.

I don't need any assisting as I know that any debt they have will come under my bankruptcy 2009 or be statute barred. Although I am quite tempted to waste some of their time. . . .any advise what to write back.

                Try this:

                Dear Sir,

Contrary to your assertion that you are merely asking me to confirm data already held, you are actually asking me to provide data so that you may compare it to that originally given by an alleged debtor. If you believe I am that person, your company will then start to harass me about an alleged debt about which I neither know nor acknowledge.

Please explain why I should do this.

However, I would like to state how excellent I found your letter to be. Cut in half, it was more than adequately large. Admittedly, it was not very absorbent, but it was both strong enough to resist tearing and sufficiently flexible not to cause chafing. Best of all, the ink did not come off in use. I may never be entirely happy with Andrex ever again!

Please send me some more letters, as soon as possible.

                Yours Faithfully,

                Clever Clogs

Are you really going to tell them that you prefer their stationery to Andrex?

Shame the ink wouldn't come off just with the words, "We have reason to believe you may live here!"

                              Re: Letter From Mackenzie Hall

well got a reply but instead of coming from the person I was originally dealing with he has obviously passed it onto customer care and I also received ANOTHER letter through the door looking for the named person on a personal matter blah blah blah
What has annoyed me is that in a previous email I requested that I didn't want them to send more letters to the address but I was happy to deal with them via email, I am not a happy bunny as the letter was picked up by a person in the house and has caused so many problems this weekend... where do I stand now?

A letter and an email... not sure they know or keep track of what is coming or going out of that place.
                              Good morning
