So far this month (June 2014) I've found 48 scam listings of VW vans, almost all on eBay and Gumtree. There's a chance I found the one your brother took the hit on before he saw it. That could make a difference, if it's true, because I always keep details of the exact time of fraud reports. Please post as much info as you can, notably :-

    The source (eBay, Gumtree etc)

    The Item Number

The full and complete wording of the title in the listing

The seller ID (if on eBay)

The date and even the TIME of the first email or telephone/text contact

This is a scammer account on Ebay, daniguil_qdk7vr36t. My husband noticed a bike for sale that was half the price it should have been so I searched finished listings and found the original listing. We phoned the original seller just to be sure then reported the listing to Ebay. I then thought to check what else he had listed. 90 items, all large like motorbikes, tractors, trikes, etc. Followed up a few more and reported those too, not sure if there's anything else we can do?

Well spotted. Other than keep reporting them there not much else you can do. Posting on here could help if people google. I posted them here yesterday http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...Y-5-SPEED-2515 and One-Eyed Jack reported them and posted them on FB and they are still there. Weekends are the best time for scammers to operate as its much slower to get them removed. So hopefully if someone isn't as astute as your hubby they might google the listing and find the post on here.

Also if people do get scammed now from those listings there might be some kind of comeback on ebay (though doubtful) because it was reported so many times.

Can't add much to that. All 90 scams were posted at about 09:40 Saturday morning. I was in zed-land at that time and didn't become aware until about mid-day when I was alerted by a friend on FB. I sent the whole list of 90 to The Kraken (a contact I have at eBay UK) but as you say they don't work at weekends so as of this minute, late Sunday afternoon, all 90 are still there and I hate to think what damage they are doing. It's quite simple to do a money transfer online on a Saturday or a Sunday of course.

In addition several people - possibly hundreds for all I know - have submitted individual fraud reports via the item listing pages, these tend to be picked up by eBay's "Crack Fraud Team" in Manila (the Philippines) - the Crack relating to what they're on half the time - but of course although this is a blatant scam no-one is doing anything about it. To me, this is a crime in itself.

Sometimes I can't help but think that, in spite of all that could be said to the contrary, the Internet is a bad, bad thing.

Hi Jane thank you for letting us know, you & your husband have had a lucky escape, read through this thread and you will see others that were less fortunate.

If you managed to get any bank details from the scammer then please let me know so I can report them.

Also, even though you did not lose money, you should still report it to Action Fraud.

Should you be unsure about any other listings then feel free to ask before bidding/buying.

I added a comment on this discussion, http://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Selli.../qaq-p/3311329 (it's listed on Google if you search for daniguil_qdk7vr36t), but my post appears to have been deleted. daniguil_qdk7vr36t listings are still active though. So Ebay are moderating attempts by Ebay users to warn others about scammers whilst giving scammers more time to scam. They are effectively aiding and abetting in my view!

Now? I just shrug. That's how it is.

JaneW's post should be on the 10 o'clock news tonight. It really should.

An increasingly common scam method is the offer - in the form of an advert on Gumtree - to pay people for the use of their eBay account. Here are some exchanges I had recently with someone who voluntarily had their eBay account 'hacked' - except it wasn't. My initial email, as you can see below, shows that at first I thought it was a hacked account. Then I found out what was really going on.....

Ahh OK thank you. Basically I saw an ad on gumtree of a person saying that they would pay me to put a classified ad on eBay up for him. I was getting suspicious when there were lots of offers coming in for this caravan and the person wanted me to forward all these offers to him, even after I had sent him e-mails from over 40 different people willing to buy it he still wanted me to carry on and forwarding the e-mails. If it helps, or you are able to report this person somehow, I have his name, address and phone number if you want it?

                      Hi

Thanks for that. Yes, this is very common - I'm guessing you were offered £120? You would never have received it, if past experience is any guide.

If you have any details it might be helpful. Thanks in advance

Foolishly Shahbaz has failed to realise he is complicit in committing fraud and could face prosecution himself, well worth the £150 he would never receive.

Just to update the thread on this one, unfortunately the funds transferred were withdrawn before the OP realised it was a scam and the account details were passed across to Barclays. I have emailed Cornish and his brother.

I would urge anyone reading this thread, if you are the slightest bit unsure about a sale, let us know as soon as possible. The quicker we know about it the more chance there is of preventing it happening or recovering any money for you.

                            Hello again,

Please check with the shipping company even now on www.vtm-transportes.com at the 'ONLINE' section of their web-site.
They do have a live help operator there, just click on the button called 'Live Support' on the top of the page and he will help you with the info you need. Just ask about my car which is there, in their warehouse, already inspected, with all its papers and ready to be shipped. They will give you all the info you need regarding delivery and payment details because I have already signed a contract with them and they will act as a third party between us.

takes me to the same 'trucking website' as last time! currently working on geting bank details, see if same too

                                Hi All,

Sorry to hear quite a few of the guys here have been victims of one fraud or the other. I was also a potential victim of a fraud via this advert on gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...005/1065889494. It seemed dodgy to me and I decided to google it out and then came across this site. I have now been contacted by a certain Alice (alice@btworld.co.uk) with the message:

                                "Hello,
The audi a6 is still for sale in excellent condition, with no damages or any faults. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £2,500 delivered at my costs.
The deal will go through eBay and PayPal.
                                Thank you"

I intend to gain as much info as I could (of course without giving away any) in order to help in this cause to rid the earth of these scum.

                                Be safe guys
