  • Treating customers Fairly--If it is a service fee you need 14 days notice

    http://www.bankingcode.org.uk/pdfdoc...05%20FINAL.pdf

If the banks wishes to Treat Customers Fairly and state that returning a cheque is a service fee then maybe they should read the code they signed up to in 2006 and still in force.

"if applicable, charges for standard account services such as charges for processing cheque/standing orders/direct debits/uk card transactions" should involve 14 days notice of charges.

returning an item is processing so if that is a standard service provided then why not 14 days?

They would sack me on the spot but the answer is when an item is returned no notice of the charge is given or for a guarateed card payment fee which technically if we are looking at the minutiae of the code should be given.

This is the very point I put to HSBC in April 2006, when claiming back my charges. Their argument was that the charges were fees for service, but I guess they did not want to go down the "breach of banking code terms" at that time...
