    How nice.

Would that someone could have called those banks before the recession and told them to "cut back".

So what's the big deal? Surely any people with any sense will be cutting back anyway? We've been cutting back for years. If the banks told people not to worry about interest rates rising and just carry on spending and not prioritise their needs, or just said nothing at all, then the banks would be castigated for that also.

If people in general are to stupid to realise that the mortgage is the main priority and maybe they don't need that gym subscription, or they can actually live without Sky TV, then I'm not sure they are responsible enough to be holding a mortgage anyway.

Yet another example of the nanny state we have become, surely we don't need our hands holding every step of the way, can people not take responsibility and think for themselves?

Everyone knows how much per month they have to live on, they should decide how to spend it.
