  • 0845 numbers to call your bank

If like me you have inclusive calls to geographic numbers (01, 02, 03 etc) but not to 0845, 0844, 0870 etc then the following will help.

Have a look at your Debit or Credit Card. On the back will be two numbers to report card stolen, lost etc.

One will almost certainly be an 0845 number from within the UK. The other will be a 'from abroad' number. It will begin '+44 xxx xxxx. Ignore the +44 and add a 0 at the front of the rest of the number. This will then be free to those who have inclusive geographic number plans.

Yes, I know that you will not usually be reporting a lost or stolen card but the call will be answered promptly and 24/7/365 too. Just insist they deal with whatever business you have to transact.

Alternatively go to SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers and type in whatever 0845 number you use to contact your bank or almost any other organisation that want you to pay for calling them. You'll almost certainly find alternative geographic numbers and you might even find one to call directly to YOUR BRANCH! Wonders never cease!

Re: 0845 numbers to call your bank

Many banks have now seen the light and are moving to 0330, 0333, 0345, 0370 and similar numbers. These are inclusive calls on landlines and on mobiles.

For those that don't make the move voluntarily, the FCA will produce regulation compelling this:

Thanks for the reminder. I have a not only Say No to 0870 on my mobile, but have put in stored numbers for RAC, banks - anyone using 0845 or 0800 numbers. They do change occasionally, so it's worth checking from time to time to make sure they're up to date.

The need for say NO to 0870 is rapidly declining, especially when calling a government department or public service.

You forgot to mention that they also have a mobile App(oh yes I have got it as well).

Re: 0845 numbers to call your bank

Several more banks today announced their move away from 084 and 087 numbers.

So far, RBS, NatWest, Barclays, TSB, HSBC, Tesco Bank, M&S Bank, First Direct and Think Money have moved, or are in the process of moving, to 03 numbers. In insurance, Legal & General have made this move and Hiscox are in the process of doing so. Where the particular number you want to call hasn't yet moved, in many cases sayNOto0870 has listed an alternative 01 or 02 number for many years.

Nationwide has moved to 080 numbers. While these are free calls from landlines they are generally not free calls from mobile phones.

Lloyds and Halifax both openly advertise geographic 01 numbers alongside their 0845 numbers.

Where an 084 or 087 number continues to be listed it is often productive to try calling the matching 034 or 037 number, substituting the 8 with a 3. If it works, it will be a cheaper call. If it doesn't work, it will have cost nothing to try it.
