Just to show its not big news

    BARCLAYS Connect/Electron cards
There is a 2% transaction charge (min £1.50 max £4.50) if you use your card in the UK to obtain sterling anywhere other than a cash machine or Barclays branch, and currency or travellers’ cheques anywhere other than a Barclays branch or Barclays website or via Barclays Travel Line.
    LLoyds
    Cash withdrawals
    - From a non-LINK machine in the UK or ATMs worldwide displaying the Visa sign
    - Over the counter at a bank or other outlet displaying the Visa sign
    1.5% of the amount withdrawn.
    Minimum transaction charge £2.00,
    maximum transaction charge £4.50.
am sure the others do too.

As Nats pointed out on MSE Natwest are moving over from Maestro to Visa debit and Visa Debit has these charges.... actually don't know why I even posted it, just as MSE seem to be shouting that 'RBS and Natwest are charging for over counter withdrawals' to get a headline thought it best to clear the situation up.

I still couldn't work this one out as being big news. There was only two ways of doing this before, one is with a cheque and cheque guarantee card so up to the limit. The other method was a fax from a relationship manager(usually meant Coutts or RBS or occasionally there was authorisation from Virgin). It is unusual to be honest so the headline is not really news.

"I work for Nat West and at the moment non-customer cannot with draw at the counter using their debit card. We are introducing a visa debit card to replace the exisitng maestro card and I can only assume that it is this card the article is referring to. Todate we have not been advised that other banks cards will be compatible with our in branch card-readers so this report is a mystery to me??"

The above is from MSE so I don't work for them
