Can someone tell me how it is decided who gets these payments and who doesn't?
What benefits you need to be on?
Some of our service users got the £25 today and some didn't.
Some of those resident with us did, which frankly I find bizzare anyway as they don't pay for heating, food etc. Yet some of those on the street didn't. Also some who have their own bedsits, so obviously do have bills, didn't get it.

Some have been to the DSS office who said those that didn't get them weren't entitled to them but couldn't say why.

Anyone know? I can't see any reasons why, as a lot of them get the same benefits.
How can someone living with us, all bills paid, lots of heat, be more deserving than someone on the street, or in their own place but no money for heat?

    Re: Cold Weather Payments

    From the DWP website.

Who can get Cold Weather Payments?

You are eligible for a Cold Weather Payment if you get one of the following benefits
    • Income Support
    • Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
    • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Pension Credit
If you get Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance (income-related) during the assessment phase or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, you must also receive a pensioner or disability premium or have a child who is disabled or under the age of 5.
Do any savings you have affect the payment?

No. Savings do not affect Cold Weather Payments.
Borrow money from a pessimist -- they don't expect it back.

Also, you don't apply for these...they are automatically sent out if the temperature goes below zero for a week or something like that... Id have to look in my book for the exact guidelines for this year. I didn't think I got them until I noticed 2 of the payments appear in my bank account!

        Ok, I found some more...

You get a cold weather payment if... the average temperature recorded or forecast over 7 consecutive days at the designated weather station for your area is zero degrees celsius (freezing) or less &...
What happyolddog said &... you are not resident in a care home.

Maybe the people concerned have different weather stations designated to them? :-/
