Hi I am new to this forum. I just need some advice on this. Is it normal that I get charged £80 for gas bill and £80 for electricity bill every month. I only have normal appliances like a fridge, an electric cooker and a tv. I just live with my wife and we both work therefore are not home during the day.
I have noticed it is always mentioned “estimate” on our bills.
no one has come to read the meters although I have called them

Thanks Kati,

I am afraid the age old adage of "I need more information" is in order here.

It may very well be that £80 a month is normal for your usage, I need some actual meter readings to work this out for you.

You say no one has come out, despite calling, have you ever read the meter yourself and provided a read?

A meter is pretty easy to read, if you have an "analog" meter (ie looks like a clock and each number "drops" on to the next) then you should have black and red numbers, they need the black ones only.

Digital ones, all the numbers before the decimal point.

I think the company are doing the whole 2.4 children thing and estimating too high for you, all can be sorted by providing a meter read.

I know you are saying you want them to do it, they are only legally obliged to do this every 2 years if your meters are internal or inside a locked gate (or you have ANY breed of dog running free in the yard).

If you can give me the figures I will gladly have a look and an estimate what you need to be paying (and if you are using mahoosive amounts too).

Callie

Re: Utilities

slainte, this is £80 gas + £80 Electric. This would seem very excessive. I know it depends on the size of the house etc but I've got a 4 bedroomed semi and that's only a combined £100 a month. This amount is only because of some fighting. They wanted to put it up to £160 but my actual useage justified what I was paying, I have an argument with then every few months. The software they use is inconsistent.

I suspect the power company has calculated the monthly payments at some time using the worst winter months as the basis and there is a healthy sum in credit.

Yes read the meters, create an online account with the company and submit your meter readings online. They may do an instant calculation of the bill. Then ask for your credit to be repaid.
