• ok potential problem with employer

I work at a place which is now asking everyone for level 2 Maths and English. this is due to a imminent visit from ofsted.

I have worked there for 19 years nearly. it wasn't a requirement of my being employed at the time and at my age I have no intention of trying to pass a level 2. I don't teach anyone only background business support.

what if anything can they do?

Have they actually told you directly that you have to study and pass a Level 2 in Maths and English to retain your employment ?

Did you get English & Maths GCSE at school at grade C or above ?

Are you employed in an Early Years setting ? and do they have issues with their ratios ? ( ie. are they trying to use you /other non teaching staff to bump their ratios )

they haven't asked me to study yet, I'm kind of pre-empting what stunt they might try and pull.

I didn't get a grade C or above at gcse no.

I'm not employed in that role I'm only business support. so don't teach.

thanks for the reply I await your wisdom.

Seems to be the up to date info here - https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...EWORK_2017.pdf

In group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant level 3 qualification and at least half of all other staff must hold at least a full and relevant level 2 qualification.
To count in the ratios at level 3, staff holding an Early Years Educator qualification must also have achieved a suitable level 2 qualification in English and maths as defined by the Department for Education on the Early Years Qualifications List published on GOV.UK
Page 23 on....
The ratio and qualification requirements below apply to the total number of staff available to work directly with children

After 19 years it would be a bit bonkers to try and force you to take level 2 literacy and numeracy - it is probably something to do with ratios and should only apply to employees who have direct contact with children, I can't see why business support staff would be affected at all, only CRB/DBS which presumably you have already dealt with. I reckon just see what they say first, but there doesn't seem to be any new requirement that would force you to have those specific qualifications in the job you have.

And no, they can't suddenly decide you need qualifications to work there unless there had been some regulatory change requiring it. AFAIK - Ula ??
