  • A rant- Callie style

Remember remember the 5th November gunpowder treason and plot!

Except it's only midway through October so idiots letting off fireworks is boiling my brain, the dogs are petrified.. the kids are trying to relax and I hate loud bangs!! Plus think about it, there must be countless former soldiers with PTSD who have nightmares when they hear an explosions and steels themself for bonfire night.

Why do people have to be so bloody inconsiderate?!?

It does seem to go on for ages although where we live is so remote we don’t get any racket. As for Halloween, well any kids would need bowels of steel to come up our lane on a creepy winter evening. Good because the sweeties are mine…all mine

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

Have you tried a thunder-shirt on the dogs SC?? They worked for my Fluke when he was younger (he's deaf so can't hear them now lol)

I haven't heard a single firework round here yet ... but there's still time

Never heard of them, normally I put the radio on for Poppy as Amber is half deaf, but the Magic (the kitten) is petrified!

You can get them for cats too ... but I think Magic would be too small maybe you can whip up something similar using an old tie or T-shirt?

Well your link does say “available in a variety of sizes and colours ”.

I’m a size 12 but I’m fussy about colours - is there hope?

Seriously though, I’ve had two dogs in my life. Both of them (a Springer Spaniel followed by a Dalmatian) were spooked by fireworks.

The problem (as I saw it) was I couldn’t explain to them in a language which they could understand that fireworks are ‘fun’ not Armageddon.

                  I miss my dogs

I though all men had selective hearing! They can hear a packet of biscuits being opened from the end of the garden but not you shouting for help when you drop half the food shopping on the ground.

Just reading the reviews of BBC’s historical drama Gunpowder. Many are absolutely horrified by the graphic portrayal of the gruesome methods used to put to death those accused of celebrating Catholic Mass and harbouring Priests. Few seem to know anything about the penal laws or the huge part that religious persecution played in the whole ‘Guy Fawkes’ story.
Yep the scenes of torture and brutal death were gruesome and one of the few things about this event in history that was well documented and the depictions are therefore, horrifyingly accurate.
I wonder if this will have any effect on the ‘gusto’ usually put into Bonfire night’ celebrations. Somehow, I doubt it.
But before you all think I am a kill joy, there is a Santa Claus and a tooth fairy.
