  • Guaranteed work on vehicle for previous owner transferable?

I bought a Mazda Bongo (diesel, automatic) in June. It had the whole automatic transmission replaced including reconditioned gearbox in March, with 12 months guarantee on the work, which was one of the reasons I bought it. It started leaking transmission fluid from the gearbox last week. Its now back with the original garage, but I need to know if I can reasonably expect them to fix it without charge, or does the transfer of ownership make the guarantee void? I'm in Scotland.

    Hi and welcome

Guarantees are an addition to consumer rights and can have certain restrictions on them e.g. condition that it applies only to the original customer.
So you need to see the original wording.

However, even if it is so limited, their initial commitment to cover the appliance for the time they stipulate has already been made and paid for.
The guarantee is not really free, but built into the price of the product. Therefore there’s no real reason why they couldn’t honour a guarantee no matter who owns it as long as it’s within the guarantee period. As long as you have the paperwork to show it is still within the guarantee period try
    negotiating. you might get lucky!
