  • paying a deposit on a room chargback or paypal better?

    Hello forum
I have been offered a job in Jersey and have found a perfect room to rent at the right price in what is a very competitive market
The room was advertised via a Facebook group and have since befriended the person letting the room via FB, cross referenced his name via google and all seems legit.
I am not asking for advice or warnings on the potential scams involved in this

But i do wish to protect myself financially should things go awry
What does the forum consider the best form of payment to offer me the best protection in this?
they are asking for a deposit initially to be paid into their account and supplied me with an account number which is in their names.
i was thinking a credit card transfer or Paypal transfer, would i still be eligible for chargeback on a transfer of this nature?
Obviously this is not the best way i would wish to transact this but other than taking an expensive flight out and staying in an expensive hotel i can't think of a better solution
    many thanks
    D
