  • Till variences

OK bit of a strange one ....
I work in a busy petrol station under rontec after being tuped from esso and
My boss has recently started taking money (no warning) from our pay for our till being down. Now I have no problem with this.

He's introduced a varience tracker for the month but for the month my varience is up but he's cherry picked the ones that are down and have taken out of wages. My problem is this if overall my varience is up then why is he allowed to do this ? I can understand if my till is down then it's a loss to his business but if my till is up its covered my loss so in reality he's gaining money from me and the till varience which he's profiting from me on both accounts ...

    Re: Till variences

Interesting to note that you had no formal warning of shortages being paid from wages. Surely that has to be made part of your contract with you in agreement? Are you actually saying that this 'variance' should be continued on a 'net loss' or a 'net gain' basis so that all losses are mitigated against all those tills that are up? I can only see that tills that are up are due to employee error as for tills that are indeed down, or with the latter there is always the question of dishonesty.

Why not suggest that the variance gets calculated once a month with all losses, assuming there are any, split among the crew? Although I suspect that this can only be based on the level of overall losses that the business experiences as it seems to me that if they are high, you could end up working for nothing.
