  • Shop Direct Default and Charges

    Hi all

I think going back a year or two i purchased a laptop, short story here, I moved jobs but was out of work for a few weeks meaning short on my pay that month, emailed via the portal to Shop Diret explaining asking for a hold on account and charges while i had this turbulence and then all would be paid again...like i say short story is they did not reply or action (to both of my emails to them.) needless to say this spiralad oyut of control, and from what i understand (Laptop was £300, and i had paid roughly £250).

Unknowingly and being a little cocky, waiting for a reply which never happened, They had defaulted this account. for £256. This has been sat with the original, shop direct - And sold to Lowell ltd. who didn't comms to me, however sold it on to Fredrickson who I did get a letter from and where i started calling etdc.

Through calling around I finally found that they now wanted £440 roughly. More than the laptop was worth. and more than the defaulted amount was for.

Is this fair or legal? A thought would be not to ask for more than the item was worth. It has just taken us 4 hours to actually arrange settlement amount today. Shop Direct would not help with anything, Fredrickson (who we called 2 weeks ago prmoising a call back after they have investigated and did NOT call back) said they could not help as Lowell own the debt, we then spoke to Lowell who advised fredrickson could accept a settlement. Called these back and eventually after talking to a line manager infact were able to do so - and is now paid as of 5 mins ago. I would have paid this before any default had they communicated correctly, but it is SO difficult to fight anybody like this
The whole reasoning behond this going on so long and so far is poor communications on Shop Direct and Lowell's part and is proven today through phone calls.
(the one funny thing is the amoutn we offered was more than they settled for fools!!)

    Any advice is most welcome
