  • Cabot and Assignment

Got a letter from my OC re an old debt which they apparently sold to Cabot back in March!! Four months later, I am just finding this out? In the interim, I have been making monthly payments to the OC so at the weekend I'll dig the old papers out of the loft and see how far adrift the balance is that Cabbage say is due. I don't understand this practice of not letting a debtor know about sale or assignment until several months later.

Any nonsense from them and I'll CCA them.

Some many times we see in the particulars of a claim a statement that " the account was assigned to claimant on and a date some years previously I can only think this is because of the size of the portfolios in which debts are sold.

You mean Cabbage (and their ilk) take so long to wade through them? The odd thing, though, is that the covering letter purports to come from the OC, yet I have heard that that may not indeed be the case.

Often because of the quantities of debts in a portfolio and where creditor sells to a particular debt purchaser the creditor authorises the new owner of a debt to send the Notice of Assignment nothing untoward in that.

Yes, but the covering letter - supposedly from OC - also includes the Cabbage letter. That, and the gap since assignment is what I find odd.

Anyway, will dig out the folder and have a look.

It's as it should be under current regulation.
