  • Cabot, Experian, Some advice please

    Hey everyone,

I am after some advice regarding an account registered on my Experian credit report, it states the account started in March 07 and went to default in July 09.

The default balance and the current balance are different amounts, having gone up over time. My name is miss spelt and they have the wrong year of birth registered.

I can not remember ever contacting Cabot but can not be 100% sure.

Please could I have some advice on this as I want to get it sorted out before they take any kind of court action as I have heard even after it falls off the credit report given the 6yr rule they have tried to take people to court. So I am wondering is there anything I can do before they try and possibly take this to court.

Thanks in advance for any comments

    Hi Welcome to LB,
Has there been any court action started on this deb? Could be one reason for increase in balance.
The default sum is that which should have been paid to put the account back to " normal " status the "final balance is the whole balance owed.
The account will be removed from credit files on the 6th anniversary of the default date paid or not. This does not necessarily mean the debt is statute barred the two are not synonymous!!

Stat Barred in England & Wales,= No payment in 6 clear years and no unequivocal written acknowledgment of the debt. ( the period is 5 years in Scotland).
Please to assist us with advice can you clarify the following points?
    1. Who was the original creditor?
    2. What type of account is this?
    3.How much is owing?
    4. Has any other DCA been involved with this debt?
5 Have any payments been made since the default date?
    6. Is Cabot chasing this at present?

Hi Nem and thanks for your reply.

There hasn't been any court action that I know of, I did just notice out of all my accounts on my Experian report Cabot have my previous address registered with this entry on my credit report.
Aslo on on my credit report there are no ccjs showing up.

It states the account as being mail order for £1800 and now at £2200 it seems looking at it every 6 months they increase it by £100...

No other DCAS involved and I have never made a payment to Cabot, although as I mention I can not 100% recall over the period having spoken or not spoken to them.

Cabot are no chasing me at this address although as mention this entry on my report states my previous address and not my current one.

      Thanks for your help Nem.

            Hi Paulie,

I'd give JDW a ring on Monday and ask them for the date of the last payment and the default date.
